Privacy policy

Last updated: 2026-08-01

MatchPick collects only what it needs to let you play. No advertising, no resale, no commercial tracking. This document states exactly what, why and for how long.

Who is responsible for your data

The data controller is the site publisher, identified in the legal notice. For any request regarding your data, use the contact form.

What we collect

When you create an account: your email address, your nickname and your password (never stored in clear text — only an irreversible cryptographic hash).

Optional, if you provide them: first name, last name, avatar, language, theme and time zone.

Through your use of the game: your predictions and their order, your jokers, your scores and rankings, your clans and memberships, your survey answers.

Technically, for security: access and action logs, including your IP address, needed to fight abuse (rate limiting, detection of automated behaviour).

Why, and on what legal basis

Running the game — account, predictions, scores, clans, rankings: performance of the service you signed up for.

Securing the service — anti-abuse, rate limiting, game fraud detection, audit trail: legitimate interest in protecting the service and fairness between players.

Emailing you — matchday opening, reminder before closing, results, announcements: legitimate interest, with a right to object that you can exercise at any time.

Meeting legal obligations — retention of certain records, response to lawful requests.

The emails you receive

You are subscribed by default to game-related emails: that is the expected service when taking part in predictions with deadlines.

You can object at any time, in one click, from your account settings or from the unsubscribe link in every email. Your choice is timestamped and kept as proof.

Unsubscribing never stops the messages essential to your account: activation, password reset, sanction notice.

How long we keep them

Your account and its data live as long as you use it. If you delete it, it is deactivated immediately, then anonymised automatically once a cooling-off period has elapsed, during which deletion remains reversible should you change your mind. That period is stated to you when you request deletion.

After anonymisation, your game history is kept in de-identified form: past rankings stay consistent, but nothing points to you any more.

Technical logs are kept for as long as securing the service requires. Audit records — security, sanctions, GDPR requests, administrative actions — are kept longer, for as long as their evidential value and the applicable legal obligations require.

Who else has access

Nobody, apart from the providers strictly necessary to run the service: the site host and the email delivery service, both located in the European Union.

Match data — fixtures, odds, scores — comes from an external provider, but the flow is one-way: we receive sports data, and no personal data is sent to them.

Your data is never sold, rented or passed to advertisers.

Transfers outside the European Union

None. Hosting and email delivery both take place within the European Union.

What you are entitled to

Access your data and obtain a copy, correct it, have it erased, object to a processing operation, restrict its use, or retrieve your data in a reusable format.

Access, correction and deletion are directly in your hands from your account settings. For anything else, write to us through the contact form: we reply within one month.

If our answer does not satisfy you, you may lodge a complaint with the CNIL — Commission nationale de l'informatique et des libertés, 3 place de Fontenoy, TSA 80715, 75334 Paris Cedex 07, www.cnil.fr.

How we protect them

Traffic is encrypted in transit (HTTPS). Passwords are hashed with an algorithm designed to resist brute-force attacks. Access to data is restricted to administrator accounts, and every sensitive action is logged.

Your first and last names are never visible to other players, nor exposed publicly: only your nickname is.

Cookies

MatchPick only sets cookies strictly necessary to its operation, which are exempt from consent. No advertising cookies, no third-party analytics. Details are given in the terms of use.
